AMD launches R-series APUs and CPUs codenamed American eagle

CHIP DESIGNER AMD launched its highest playing second generation embedded R-series accelerated process unit (APU) and central processor lines on Tuesday, codenamed American eagle.
Made for embedded applications, the 28nm chip is aimed toward delivery 4K quality displays to recreation machines, medical imaging, digital collection, industrial management and automation, and communications and networking infrastructure that ar more and more wishing on reckon and graphics process technology.

"Bald Eagle is our 1st implementation of our Heterogeneous Systems design (HSA) that enables U.S. to unlock the facility of the GPU for non-traditional graphics workloads," AMD CVP and g of Embedded Solutions Scott Aylor same in an exceedingly informing decision.

"In the evolution of our next wave of process and graphics technology, we tend to ar ready to support 4K, the arrival of extremist high definition (UHD). [This] could be a huge a part of what we tend to ar delivery forward during this device."

AMD R-series APU and central processor chips ar designed for middle to high-end visual and parallel compute-intensive embedded applications with support for UNIX, RTOS and Windows operative systems. AMD same American eagle is that the terribly high finish of performance within the R-series family.

"We have the vertical segments that we tend to ar specializing in in terms of creating a vertical market system level worth propositions. Areas like digital collection, for instance could be a nice one wherever this device is our 1st that truly has 4K show capability," Aylor additional.

"What we tend to see happening within the digital collection market is gigantic growth in quick-service building and video walls, wherever folks ar substitution digital collection with wealthy interactive collection," Aylor explained.

"The American eagle device is that the 1st device that allows those innovations in show."
The second generation R-series ranges from two.2GHz to 3.6GHz central processor frequency with soap boost, supported AMD's latest central processor design codenamed Steamroller, and 533MHz to 686MHz GPU frequency supported AMD's latest Graphics Core Next (GCN) design, designed to spice up the expansion and data processing capabilities of embedded applications.

The R-series family is additionally designed for embedded applications with dual-channel memory as well as error-correcting code (ECC), DDR3-2133 support and configurable thermal style power (TDP) for system style flexibility to optimise the processor at a lower TDP, AMD said.
